At a glance
  • Reverse-circulation and core drilling are planned for the next phase.
  • Tyro’s initial resource and broader exploration remain separate milestones.

The next phase goes beyond the initial estimate

West Point Gold (TSXV: WPG; OTCQX: WPGCF) plans to begin a 30,000-metre program at Arizona’s Gold Chain project in September. The September 9 release describes a combination of reverse-circulation and core drilling focused on extending Northeast Tyro and Tyro Main, with additional work expected at Black Dyke, Sheep Trail, Bull 8 and Frisco Graben.

The pending maiden resource will use 20,696 metres already drilled at Tyro. Black Dyke will not be included in that initial estimate. The new campaign is therefore an additional exploration program, rather than drilling already incorporated into a published resource.

A district setting with several follow-up areas

Gold Chain sits in Arizona’s Oatman district and hosts a low-sulphidation epithermal gold system. The company’s project overview identifies a series of structural corridors and targets, including the Tyro vein system, the Banner–Sheep Trail trend and Frisco Graben. Powerlines cross the property, and water rights are associated with patented claims.

These features provide context for a campaign spread across several areas. They are exploration and infrastructure attributes, not evidence that a mine has been approved or that the company’s conceptual targets have become mineral resources.

Recent agreements simplify part of the land position

The drill plan follows the August announcement of agreements affecting 107 claims in the western part of Gold Chain, including Black Dyke and Bull 8. West Point Gold disclosed US$960,000 in cash consideration to accelerate remaining payments, extinguish a 2% net-smelter-return royalty and remove a potential future bonus payment.

From Cornerstone’s perspective, the link between that transaction and the exploration plan is straightforward: the company is advancing areas where it has also worked to simplify future economic obligations. Removing a royalty does not create a deposit, but it can change the economics retained by an owner if a project ultimately advances.

How to follow the campaign as results arrive

Cornerstone analysis

The most useful way to assess the coming work is target by target. Step-out drilling asks whether mineralization continues beyond the current model. Testing a less-developed area asks a different question: whether enough geological continuity can be established to justify a larger follow-up program. Combining those objectives offers several ways to add information, without assuming every hole serves the same purpose.

The first resource estimate will be an important reference point. Subsequent results can then be assessed for their location, spacing, grade and potential contribution to later modelling. Individual intercepts should be read alongside their geological setting and the distinction between drilled length and true width.

This announcement gives Gold Chain a defined next work program. The opportunity is to build on the existing Tyro dataset while testing whether the wider property can support additional areas of resource development. Drilling commencement, assay releases and the initial technical estimate are the practical milestones to follow.
