At a glance
  • West Point completed a 21,079-metre drill campaign at Gold Chain and has continued reporting strong results from Tyro and Black Dyke.
  • NE Tyro has delivered repeated high-grade, wide intercepts while remaining open to depth and to the northeast.
  • The company is compiling the 2026 drill data toward a planned maiden resource estimate later in 2026.

A drill campaign that is starting to look like a district-building program

West Point Gold entered 2026 with a clear objective at its flagship Gold Chain Project in Arizona: drill enough of the Tyro system to materially improve geological confidence while also testing additional targets capable of broadening the project beyond a single discovery. By August, the company had completed 21,079 metres of drilling across the broader program. That scale matters because a junior explorer is ultimately judged by the amount and quality of information it converts into a coherent geological model, not simply by the number of press releases it produces.

The results reported through the summer show progress on both fronts. Tyro Main and Northeast Tyro continue to define a substantial mineralized system, while Black Dyke has emerged as a separate shallow target approximately four kilometres west of Tyro. West Point has also tested other areas across Gold Chain, giving management several geological datasets to compare as it decides where the next metres should go.

The constructive takeaway is that the company is no longer relying on one isolated high-grade hole to support the Gold Chain story. It is building a larger body of drilling, structural interpretation and target-specific evidence that can be incorporated into resource modelling and future exploration planning.

Northeast Tyro is supplying the high-grade core of the story

Northeast Tyro has repeatedly delivered the kind of width-and-grade combinations that can materially influence how an exploration project is perceived. On July 29, West Point reported 62.5 metres grading 3.12 grams per tonne gold in hole GC26-166, including 38.1 metres at 4.66 g/t. A nearby hole returned 54.9 metres at 2.02 g/t, including 19.8 metres at 4.40 g/t.

Those results followed the July 9 report from GC26-168, which returned 56.4 metres at 4.24 g/t gold, including 28.9 metres at 7.77 g/t. West Point said the deeper drilling indicated that the vein system remained open and that the higher-grade zone continued at depth. For a planned resource estimate, continuity between sections can be every bit as important as a spectacular individual assay because continuity is what allows a geological model to become more defensible.

The company’s reported drilling therefore provides two positive signals at the same time: strong grades within the Northeast Tyro zone and a growing amount of data showing how that mineralization behaves from section to section.

Tyro Main adds scale and a broader mineralized envelope

Tyro Main provides a different but complementary contribution. West Point’s August 5 update included 18 holes from Tyro Main and the adjacent Decimal Hill area, highlighted by GC26-138, which intersected 30.4 metres at 2.31 g/t gold. Earlier 2026 drilling at Tyro Main had also returned broad mineralized intervals, including 184.4 metres at 1.00 g/t gold from surface in hole GC26-125, with higher-grade intervals contained within the broader zone.

This matters because a project can become more compelling when it combines a higher-grade component with broader mineralized envelopes that may add tonnes. The exact economics can only be evaluated through resource work and later technical studies, but from an exploration standpoint the combination gives West Point more flexibility in how it models the system.

Management has said the Tyro data are being compiled and evaluated for a maiden resource estimate expected later in 2026. That makes the 2026 campaign more than a sequence of exploration holes: it is the dataset intended to support the company’s next major technical milestone.

Black Dyke is becoming a meaningful second target

Black Dyke has developed quickly from an exploration concept into a second area with repeated gold intercepts. The August 11 program returned 7.6 metres at 2.22 g/t gold in GC26-144 and 16.8 metres at 0.90 g/t in GC26-146, with mineralization intersected in all holes from the follow-up program.

West Point’s earlier drilling had already outlined shallow mineralization beginning at or near surface. The August ownership update described Black Dyke as a credible second potential resource-development area separate from Tyro, with a shallow-dipping zone of quartz veinlets and breccia that remains open along strike and down dip.

A second target can be strategically important for an explorer because it reduces dependence on one geological centre. If continued drilling expands Black Dyke while Tyro advances toward resource definition, Gold Chain can evolve from a single-zone story into a broader project with multiple potential sources of future resource growth.

Cleaner ownership improves the long-term project framework

In August, West Point announced agreements that eliminated a 2% net smelter return royalty and a future bonus-payment obligation on 107 Bureau of Land Management claims covering the western portion of Gold Chain. Those claims include Black Dyke, Bull 8 and Gold Chain Hill.

The company paid US$960,000 under the agreements. In exchange, it simplified the ownership structure around areas where it has recently generated exploration success. For a project that is still adding geological value, removing future royalty and bonus obligations can improve the amount of potential project value retained by the owner if the targets continue to advance.

That transaction is especially relevant because it was completed after Black Dyke and Bull 8 had already produced encouraging drilling. Management was not simplifying an abstract land package; it was simplifying ownership around areas that had begun demonstrating exploration value.

A management team that combines markets and geology

West Point is led by President and CEO Derek Macpherson, whose background spans mining capital markets and metallurgy. Vice President of Exploration Rob Johansing brings decades of experience in mineral development and low-sulfidation epithermal gold systems, the geological style relevant to Gold Chain.

The company also strengthened its corporate-development function in 2026 with the appointment of Amandip Singh, a geologist and mining professional with experience across mining, finance and academia. That mix is useful for a junior explorer because technical success must eventually be translated into financing, investor communication and disciplined project decisions.

The team’s current task is straightforward to describe even if execution is complex: turn a large 2026 dataset into a credible maiden resource, identify the best next drill targets, and keep expanding the areas that are producing the strongest geological evidence.

Why the next phase could be important

West Point has said it plans to resume drilling in mid-September. The company therefore enters the next phase with a much larger technical foundation than it had at the beginning of 2026: a completed 21,079-metre campaign, repeated high-grade results at Northeast Tyro, broader Tyro Main mineralization, an emerging second target at Black Dyke and simplified ownership on key western claims.

For investors following operational progress rather than day-to-day share-price movement, the most important upcoming milestone is the planned maiden resource estimate. A resource would provide a standardized framework for measuring the scale and grade distribution of the mineralization defined to date.

Cornerstone’s view is that West Point’s strongest positive characteristic right now is the way several pieces are advancing together. Drilling is adding confidence at Tyro, exploration is broadening the project, and corporate actions are simplifying ownership. That combination gives the next round of technical work a stronger base to build from.
